Culvert Crawlers - Waterbury Training

CReW (Community Resilience for the Waterbury Area) is excited to be expanding the culvert monitoring program aka "Culvert Crawlers" to Waterbury, and we are looking for volunteers!

Culverts are critical pieces of infrastructure that assist with stormwater runoff. Many of us have seen the unfortunate effects of a blocked or unmaintained culvert after heavy rain, which can lead to washed out roads or flooded homes.

Culvert Crawlers is a smartphone-based survey tool that allows volunteers to report on the condition of culverts around their town. There is no commitment required and volunteers are asked NOT to actually crawl into culverts or perform any maintenance themselves. Attendees of this event will learn about how culverts function and receive training on how to use the tool on their own.

Please CLICK HERE to register in advance for the training session - thank you!

Attendees should note there is NO PUBLIC PARKING at the Waterbury Fire Station - please use street parking or nearby public lots.

While this training will focus on the use of the survey tool in Waterbury, we welcome interested volunteers from any of the towns in CReW’s service area including Middlesex, Moretown, Duxbury, and Bolton.

Get Pumped! Water Pump Training w/ Waterbury NDPC

Interested in getting hands-on experience with the types of pumps used in flood prevention and recovery? This event will provide useful knowledge and training for homeowners and cleanup volunteers on the setup and use of various water pumps, including electric sump pumps, transfer pumps, and gas-powered trash pumps.

This will be a drop-in event from 5-7pm and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and get trained on the pumps of their choosing. Training will take place in the shallow end of the Waterbury swimming pool, so participants should be comfortable standing in ankle deep water. Suitable sandals or boots are recommended, along with clothing that might get wet!

Presented by CReW and the Waterbury Natural Disaster Preparedness Committee
